2.  Fidalgo Democrats Monthly Meeting, Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, 7 p.m., Anacortes Public Library, 1220 10th Street, Anacortes

Evelyn Adams of Transition Fidalgo & Friends will speak about TF&F and the international Transition movement.  After the speaker, there will be a moderated period of questions and comments.  We will also survey and vote on members’ program interests for 2012.  Friends, colleagues, and family are welcome.  Coffee and refreshments will be available, as always.  Please bring a non-perishable food item for the food bank donation box near the door.  For more information, call Corinne at 293-7114.

3.  New – Gala 2012 Team Meeting, Thursday, Jan. 5, 5 p.m., Party Headquarters, Mount Vernon

The committee for this years’ event grew by 5 people after the December Central Committee Meeting. The first meeting for 2012 will be on the 5th of January @5pm. We will meet at the Skagit Democrats’ Headquarters in downtownMount Vernon. It is not too late to join us. It takes many hands to make this event successful and fun. The Gala event will be onMay 5th, 2012; Cotton Tree Inn inMount Vernon.

At our first meeting, it is likely that a theme name will be chosen. The discussion will begin on speaker choices and food. We usually divide up into teams. The teams report on their overall progress in the larger meeting setting. These are the things we focus on: items for the auction, food, entertainment, table dressings, auction evening check in, ticket sales, auction evening volunteers, check out with auction items, auction item processing at HQ and ???? As you can tell we need many volunteers. Please join us on the 5th of January. Let staff know if you would like to be a part of this great event @ 360 336 1555 or staff@skagitdemocrats.org. 4.  Public Bank Forum, Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, 1 – 3 p.m., Unitarian Universalist Church, 315 3rd Avenue South, Kirkland

The forum, which is free and open to the public, will feature Representative Bob Hasegawa, Chair of the House Infrastructure Financing Task Force and sponsor of legislation to establish a public bank inWashingtonState.  If you are tired of state tax money going to megabanks, you will want to attend this event.

6.   Central Committee Meeting of the Skagit County Democrats, Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, 10 a.m. – noon, Party Headquarters, Mount Vernon

All PCOs are urged to attend.  All interested Democrats are welcome, as always. We will be electing a new Vice-Chair from among the PCOs to fill the vacancy created when Josie Hedgpeth took over as our Chair.  We will also begin the important work that is necessary to prepare for caucuses and the county convention leading up to the critical November election.

Climate Change: Implications for the Pacific Northwest

How does our climate today compare with the past?  What do we think the climate will be in the future?  Please join us 7 pm., Friday, January 13th at the Anacortes Library to hear Dr. Nick Bond, Washington State Climatologist and Principal Research Scientist, University of Washington, talk about these issues and what each of us can do to have an impact.  The lecture is free and open to the public.

This lecture is first in a series of presentations this winter sponsored by the Skagit Co.   • Amie with Organizing forAmerica[OFA] is available Thursday afternoons after1pm.  Her team needs volunteers for the Obama 2012 campaign. There is much to do!
  • Committees for the 2012 election are being organized. They are; convention, caucus, resolutions and Gala.
