DEMOCRATIC EVENTS


1. NEWGala News!
We are pleased to inform you that we plan to have our annual Gala in person this year on Saturday, Jun 4 at the Swinomish Casino. This event is our most important annual fund raiser. The money we raise helps our local candidates, pays the office rent and supports our ongoing work. Please mark your calendars!!

As we have done in the past, we appeal to you to help us with Silent and Live Auction donations. These items, provide a significant amount of revenue. In addition to silent auction items, you also have been very generous in providing us with Live Auction valuables like Vacation Weeks, Event Tickets, Boat Trips and the like. We totally appreciate these and count on the revenue they generate. We will gladly accept your items.

We need to collect all donation items no later than Friday, May 20. Items may be brought to our Headquarters Office, 2021 East College Way, Suite 104. You can also call 360-336-1555 and we can arrange to pick them up. Feel free to email any questions to staff@skagitdemocrats.org.
              
2. NEWThe 40th Legislative District Democrats Executive Board meets Tuesday, Mar 22, 6:00pm – 7:30pm, via Zoom

3. UPDATEDDemocratic Legislative District Caucuses are scheduled for Saturday, Mar 26
  • The 39th Legislative District Democrats – “Are you interested in running to be a delegate to the Washington State Democratic Party convention on June 25th-26th? Then, you can file for one of the 16 delegate positions and 8 alternate positions below. Anybody in the district can run and this election will be held on March 26th at 10am via zoom (however only members can vote).” Click Here for the Registration Form.   • The 40th Legislative District Democrats have scheduled their 2022 Caucus for Saturday, Mar 26, 10:00am via Zoom. Click Here for the Zoom link. Click Here for the Delegate Registration Form.
  • The 10th Legislative District Democrats have scheduled their 2022 Caucus for Saturday, Mar 26, 10:00am via Zoom. The Caucus will select delegates and alternatives to the Jun 24 – 26 State Convention. “All candidates to be a delegate MUST declare themselves digitally by registering HERE! . . . The 10th gets to send 21 delegates and 10 alternates to the convention . . . For more information, contact chair@10thLDDemocrats.org.”
4. NEWThe 39th Legislative District Democrats will conduct a General Meeting Saturday, Mar 26, time TBD following the Legislative Caucus
Agenda items include whether or not there is a need for a reorganization meeting and discussion of adapting the 44th LD Democrats by-laws for the 39th.

5. Skagit County Democrats will continue to mandate facemasks at our Headquarters Office
While the Statewide mask mandate has been lifted for many situations, we will continue to require facemasks at our Headquarters until further notice.

1. NEWNo More Bombs will be protesting using our “NO NUKES” banner on the Blackburn I-5 overpass in South Mount Vernon Friday, March 25, 3:00pm
“Park along Blackburn Road. Bring a sign or simply wave at motorists. . . If there is too much rain or wind we will cancel.”

2. NEW Daffodil Pet Parade and Costume Contest, Saturday, Mar 26, 11:30am – 1:00pm at the La Conner High School Track, 305 North 6th Street, La Conner
Awards will be given for the best daffodil costume and best celebrity look alike! This is a free, family friendly event. In honor of the #BettyWhiteChallenge – please bring a pet food donation with you! Please make sure your domestic pet is well adjusted and can handle other pets and crowds. Please pick up after your pet.

3. NEWThe monthly Planned Parenthood rally is Saturday, Apr 2, 11:00am – 12:00pm, on the sidewalk in front of the Mount Vernon Health Center, 1805 East Division Street, Mount Vernon
Bring your signs, your friends, your family, and your masks.

Local COVID-19 Case, Hospital & Vaccine Data

Skagit County’s 14-day case rate has decreased by 27 percent since last week, and our hospitalization rate has decreased by 24 percent. Three new COVID-related deaths were reported this week.

Vaccine at the Public Health Office

Public Health will be hosting a free Saturday vaccination clinic on March 26th from 9am-1pm! No appointment required, though folks can register for a specific time by going to https://bit.ly/36oLzkN. All doses available for those 5 years and older. Please enter through the 1st floor lobby entrance.

COVID-19 prime, pediatric, and booster vaccinations are available at the Public Health office in downtown Mount Vernon at 700 S 2nd Street. The clinic is open Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

COVID-19 Testing Site at Cascade Mall

A new COVID-19 testing site is now open at Cascade Mall, located at 150 Cascade Mall Drive in Burlington. As a reminder: the Fairgrounds testing site closed on Friday, March 4th.

The new site is located on the east side of the mall parking lot near the old Johnny Carino’s restaurant. Testing services are available on Mondays and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

At-home COVID-19 Testing

Free at-home test kits can now be ordered online through the following sites: If testing at home and you receive a positive test result, please call the state’s COVID-19 Hotline at 1–800–525–0127 or the Skagit County Public Health office at (360) 416-1500.

If you have tested positive for COVID-19, are symptomatic, or have been recently exposed, please refer to the CDC’s Isolation and Quarantine Guidance found here: https://bit.ly/3JQLIwF.

Statewide Indoor Mask Mandate Lifted March 12th

As a reminder, the statewide mask mandate was lifted at midnight on Saturday, March 12th. Masks are no longer required in indoor locations such as restaurants, grocery stores, malls, public-facing offices, K-12 schools, and child care locations throughout the state. This does not include certain indoor settings considered to be at high-risk for disease spread including healthcare settings, long-term care facilities, and correctional facilities.
