COMMUNITY EVENTS

1. – NEW COMMUNITY FORUM: A Day of Remembrance and Action

Follow this link to learn of the event being held in Bellingham, Wednesday, August 6 from 6-8 pm

Join us for a Community Forum to commemorate Aug 6th as an historic date which repeatedly intersects with contemporary politics from 1945 to 2017 and into 2025. We will also take the opportunity to celebrate Lelo’s birthday with him via phone (if his phone service is strong enough to connect).

2. – NEW Indivisible Skagit In-person Solidarity Event with C2C

WHEN: August 10th, Sunday, 4:30

WHO: The whole membership is invited for learning together and to mobilize for community grassroots movement building

WHAT: Indivisible National’s Focus – Solidarity in Action: “Protect and support marginalized communities facing harm”

WHERE: C2C Solidarity Center – 224 Stewart Rd #200, Suite 230, Mt. Vernon

In a time of rising injustice and division, the Advancing Our Values campaign is a call to action for Indivisible members to rise together. Rooted in care, solidarity, and resistance, this campaign equips and supports groups to stand up for communities under attack through mutual aid, rapid response, and political education.
We know that showing up in solidarity means doing so effectively, thoughtfully, and without causing harm. That’s why this campaign is about learning and unlearning, listening deeply, and building trust as we take action together.

3. – Extended Deadline Skagit County Seeks Applicants for Planning Commission Vacancies in Districts 1 and 3

ANNOUNCEMENTS

1. – NEW Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning

Announced by Skagit County on July 30, 2025:

2. – NEW Update on Alfredo ‘Lelo’ Juarez Zeferino

Lelo Juarez has returned safely to his hometown in Mexico after being granted voluntary departure from ICE custody on July 14.

Lelo will now be able to celebrate his birthday, on August 6, surrounded by his parents and siblings. We thank everyone who supported his case; we also thank everyone who has stood up for, and continues to stand up for, immigrant and farmworker rights during this time.

Visit the C2C Blog for more information and to get involved with the causes Lelo fought for.

3. – Election Observers needed for the primary
During every election, we have observers in the room as election workers open ballots and prepare them for machine counting.

This is a critical process to observe, with many steps involved to ensure the security of our election system. Those who have done it before find the experience interesting and reassuring. Please consider taking at least one shift in the coming weeks.

You can sign up for a 1.5 hour shift at this address: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0845AAA92CA5F4CF8-50899792-election#/.

You do not have to be a member of the party, but you will be asked to represent Skagit County Democrats. Independent voters recruit their own representatives.

4. – Skagit Democrats website update – Candidate Links

Please consider donating or supporting these candidates fighting for Democratic Values in Skagit County, espically if you live in their district

Closed Captioning
Closed captioning provides a transcript for the audio track of a video presentation that is synchronized with the video and audio tracks. Captions are generally visually displayed over the video, which benefits people who are deaf and hard of hearing, and anyone who cannot hear the audio due to noisy environments. Most of our website’s video content includes automated captions. Learn how to turn captioning on and off in YouTube.

Volume Controls
Your computer, tablet, or mobile device has volume control features. Each video and audio service has its own additional volume controls. Try adjusting both your device’s volume controls and your media players’ volume controls to optimize your listening experience.
